Welcome to SpineLab

Before Your First Visit

As a new patient we ask you to please:

  • read through this page
  • watch the introduction video on this page
  • Fill out the online forms we send you via email

Thank you.

This may well be your first experience of SOT chiropractic and craniopathy at SpineLab we can assure you that we take your health seriously at this clinic.

It is vital that the practitioner looking after you understands and gets to know you well. This will help us find the underlying cause of your problem, treat it, rather than covering up your symptoms with medication and start to get you feeling better as soon as possible. Please bring any relevant x-rays, MRI scans, notes, letters etc. along to your appointment.

The video below will explain a little about us at SpineLab and how we work. We kindly ask that you watch this before you attend your appointment.

For your convenience our new patient forms will be emailed to you when you book your appointment. Please fill these in on line before your appointment. Thank you

Your Initial Visits

Our New Patient Assessment is split into two visits, which will include your new patient assessment, and report of findings (results).

Your First Visit (£60) is an assessment and will involve finding out as much as possible about you and your problem.

  • Intro DVD to Chiropractic
  • A private consultation with the doctor of chiropractic
  • This also includes a thorough spinal examination, postural, neurological, orthopaedic tests
  • X-rays if diagnostically indicated (charge £92.00)
  • For us to better understand your problem we don’t necessarily treat on the first visit, but we will make sure you are looked after.

PLEASE ALLOW 30-45 MINS FOR THIS VISIT

Where we want you to understand what is wrong and how we can help.

  • A review of your examination findings, SpineLab and x-ray results.
  • Results DVD- find out what your results mean.
  • An explanation of our findings, our recommendations, our fees and then if you are happy we will start care.
  • If we determine we cannot help, we will make a referral to an appropriate specialist.

PLEASE ALLOW 45 MINS FOR THIS VISIT

Treatment/ adjustment is not included in your New Patient Assessment Fee

Depending on your clinical needs this normally given after your report of findings. Don’t worry, many people come to us in pain expecting to have a treatment straight away. Be reassured that we will make sure you are looked after.

Follow Up Visits and adjustments £55 per visit

As most people are busy these days, with work and home commitments, we want to respect your time and not keep you at the clinic for long periods of time. Therefore we try and have you in and out of the clinic in 15-20 minutes on these visits.

Once you have had your report of findings, we hope that you will be happy to commence care with us. Normally we work on 6 visit cycles and then re-examine you to show you how you are doing. Fees are due at the time of each visit and our reception team should have informed you of our fees when you made your initial enquiry. We do offer discounts if you wish to prepay for 12 visits. Your chiropractor will go through these with you at your report of findings. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to speak to any of our staff, they will always be pleased to help you.

How long will it take to get better?

This is one of the most common questions we are asked and very often patient expectations do not live up to the latest evidence for care. At SpineLab we run an evidence based practice, so we base our treatment plans and healing times on scientific research and the latest medical evidence, which presently has been compiled by National Institute for Clinical Excellence. This states that for complete rehabilitation a problem arising from the following will take in the region of:

  • Muscular 12 weeks
  • Ligament 4-6 months
  • Tendon 6-9 months
  • Disc or Cartilage 12 months ( we like to keep an eye on our disc patients as recent suggests 50% of patient have a relapse of their disc problem  in the first year if their spine isn’t maintained)

Procedure for Claiming on Health Insurance

To keep our charges down, we will not invoice direct to health insurers, as any administrative fee would be passed onto the patient. Patients who wish to claim from their health insurer need to pay personally for their care and claim it back. We will issue you with receipts as necessary.

Don’t Forget

Before starting care you must have your insurer’s approval and a claim reference number. Contact your insurers and ask the following questions.

  1. Does your policy allow for chiropractic/osteopathy care with your chosen GCC/GOC registered practitioner?
  2. Do you need a referral from either your GP or Consultant prior to starting care?
  3. Is there a financial limit or restriction on the number of visits you can have?
  4. You need to advise them that we do not invoice and you will be claiming back personally.

Important to Remember

Insurers may not reimburse for care given prior to the date you notify them or get approval for care. Please do not ask us to provide invoices or records that may compromise our integrity. Some insurers do not cover the full cost of our fees and you will be responsible for any outstanding payment.

At present Dr Carl Irwin is our only recognised practitioner for insurance purposes and if you decide to have care with another practitioner, we will not be responsible when your claim is turned down by your insurers nor will we alter records to assist your claim.
